How to Apply

PIN and the UMMC School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences (SGSHS) offer a unique learning opportunity and environment for students. Additional information can be found on the SGSHS PhD Program Highlights page.

Admission requirements

The graduate program in Neuroscience (PIN) values both academic excellence and research experience in their applicants.

• Baccalaureate degree in a relevant scientific discipline
• GPA (3.0 or better)
• SGSHS Admissions Criteria and Information
• Note: These requirements represent the minimum standards for consideration. Matriculating students typically exceed these standards.

The application deadline is Dec. 15. PIN reviews all applicants for entry in the fall semester (August).

Complete the online application. You'll need three letters of recommendation, copies of your predoctoral transcripts, GRE scores and TOEFL, IELTS or PTE-A scores for international applicants. More information can be found on the SGSHS Application Deadlines and Procedures page.

Financial support information

Students accepted into the graduate program in Neuroscience receive research stipend and tuition scholarship funding throughout their training. No further scholarship application is required. Additional information can be found by visiting the SGSHS Awards and Funding Opportunities page.

Graduate school travel program

The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences (SGSHS) Trainee Travel Program will provide up to $1,500 per academic year for each full-time trainee. Moreover, graduate students who are awarded an individual extramural fellowship grant are also eligible to receive an additional travel stipend of $1,500 to present their research findings at a national/international meetings.

The Graduate School also supports the Professional Skills Travel Program. This program provides up to $1,500 per academic calendar year for each full-time PhD graduate student who has passed their Qualifying Exams and has been admitted to Candidacy. The student will be allowed to attend one workshop, review course, etc. per academic year. This workshop, review course, etc. cannot be in conjunction with a scientific meeting.
